Soot Bat

Soot is a non-binary Virtual YouTuber and Twitch Streamer. They make gaming and art content in English and sometimes in Spanish. Their schedule typically consists of alternating between the subjects of art, horror games, and cozy games. Their art content consists of Live 2D rigs, 2D animation, and illustration. Soot's favorite video games vary by year, but they're generally fond of indie titles.

Their human half is alive, while their bat half is dead. • They can travel freely between the land of the living and the land of the dead. They are clairvoyant and highly spiritual. • Soot kept the physical limitations of their human body (they are still disabled). • Soot can fly short distances. They used to be able to travel far, but now it’s hard for them. • Soot let go of their human name and are now only Soot, Bat, or both, Soot Bat. • Soot can transform into a bat, but cannot become (or appear to be) 100% human. They prefer their hybrid form over their bat form since talking and hearing are much easier for streaming and gaming than echolocation.

Full Story: Soot was born into a tragic human life. They were abandoned by their parents at a young age, and left to work on their own to survive. They struggled to get by and their body became weak from working so much and not being well cared for. One day, they decided they had enough, so they prayed to their ancestors, asking for aid and a new life.

Their prayers were answered. Not with words, but with a strong urge to return to their home island, Borikén, and rest. They ventured there and found their way to a cave. Exhausted from their journey, they laid down to rest although the sun was still up. They slept better than they ever had before. They dreamt of centuries past, like visions from the eyes of their ancestors. They watched the island change, gods come and go, and the very cave they slept in forming into what it was now.

When Soot awoke, they were surrounded by faceless, ghostly people and the cave was lit only by moonlight. The strange entities greeted soot with gentle waves, but no words. Soot was shocked and sat up immediately. The figures stepped aside as one larger figure approached. It was adorned with feathers and jewelry. The apparition held out their hand. In it, was a guava. Soot’s fears washed away as they took the fruit. They understood. These were the people they dreamt of, the ones they called out to. Soot ate the fruit, and the moment they took the last bite, they sprouted wings, their features shifted— they were a bat!

The sunlight trickled into the cave as the group around Soot faded away and a camp of bats appeared above them, clinging onto the ceiling sleepily. Soot found new strength and felt joy for the first time in years. They thanked the bats and ventured out of the cave, having found a new appreciation for the world. They flew away, looking for new friends and a place to pursue their passions. Their half-bat, half-human appearance doesn’t bother them at all. Frankly, the strangest parts of their transformation for them is their lack of a belly button and their excessive sleepiness in the day. Some days they consider becoming totally nocturnal.

Soot now lives a mostly normal life with their equally strange catgirl partner. Occasionally they see spirits or bats in the night, but they are never afraid.
